Scheveningen
Scheveningen is the most popular seaside resort of the Netherlands. Of course, there is the broad beach and the cosy boulevard, but the seaside resort also has a large amount of attractions and museums. For example, the casino, the Circustheater, a mega cinema, the renovated pier and a covered shopping centre. So in short, if you want to do something other then sun bathing there are enough possibilities.
The beach is very popular during summer- and wintertime. There are numerous beach pavilions and terraces. Want to get a spectacular view of the sea? Walk on to the pier. On your way you will meet several shops. If you want to get more peace and quiet it is better to walk in the Northern direction to the Zwarte Pad (black path) here are shelves on the beach so wheelchairs and strollers can easily access the beach. If you want to go surfing, horse riding or kite flying? Scheveningen is the place to be.
Besides the attractions and shops directly at the boulevard there is also a little ancient Scheveningen to be seen. For that, go to the South side of the boulevard. Here you will find some old fisherman houses and the Oude Kerk (Old Church).
On the boulevard you will find Sea Life, here you will encounter all the inhabitants of the North Sea, in a large aquarium. Other than that, there are some museums. Special highlight is the museum ship Hr. MS Mercuur, on this ship you will learn all about life on board a marine ship. The Scheveningen museum will take you back into time and offers the possibility to climb the lighthouse. If you are more into modern artworks you can visit the museum Beelden aan de Zee.
Den Haag is at a stones throw from Scheveningen. There is always something to do in this town. One of the highlights is the Panorama Mesdag; it shows an image of Scheveningen in 1880. Of course, Madurodam and Duinrell are also well-worth a visit.
